Beyond the UK, there is one place in the world to find Birra Montecassino — the estate where it is brewed, in the hills beneath the Abbey of Montecassino.

Birrificio Montecassino was reborn in 2018, transforming the once-abandoned Albaneta land and its derelict farmhouses into a working microbrewery on 700 acres of Italian mountainside. Every beer is made with naturally rock-filtered spring water drawn from within the Montecassino hillside, in the tradition of the monks who first brewed here.

Alongside the brewery sits our authentic Italian restaurant — if you are visiting Montecassino Abbey and looking for somewhere to eat nearby, there is nowhere closer to the story. It is the only place to taste Alba, Aurea and Dubbel poured yards from where they are made, with cooking true to the region. Visit the abbey in the morning, walk the estate, and take a table with a view of fifteen centuries of history.
